What one small app costs on each

Take a Node.js API with 512 MB of RAM and a PostgreSQL database, running all month. On Render's Hobby workspace the web service costs $7 a month. The free Postgres expires 30 days after it is created, so a database you keep needs a paid Render Postgres instance on top, and traffic above the 5 GB included each month costs $0.15 per GB.

On Omeganodes the same app fits the Starter plan: €5 a month, or €3 in Africa, Latin America and most of Asia, for 512 MB of RAM and 5 GB of disk, with the database running next to the app inside those 5 GB. Prices include VAT where it applies, and nothing is metered by the hour.

Free plans side by side

Render's free web services suit demos: they spin down after 15 minutes without traffic, and the next visitor waits about a minute while the service starts again. They cannot use a persistent disk or scale past one instance, and a free Postgres database expires after 30 days, with a 14-day grace period before it is deleted and no backups meanwhile.

The Omeganodes Free plan is one project with 256 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk, and it does not expire. Apps are not put to sleep when nobody visits, and a database on the Free plan has no end date: it shares the 1 GB of disk, and restore from a backup comes with the paid plans. Free sites show a small “Hosted free on omeganodes.com” banner, removed on any paid plan.

Moving an app from Render

Both platforms build from your repository, so the move is mostly settings.

• Create a free account and a new project from the same GitHub or GitLab repository and branch; set the root directory if the service lived in a subfolder.
• Copy the environment variables from the service's Environment page on Render and paste them as KEY=value lines under Env Vars → Paste .env, then click Save & Redeploy.
• Put Render's build and start commands in Settings → Build configuration, or leave them blank to let Omeganodes detect them. Keep reading the port from the PORT variable.
• Create a PostgreSQL database under Databases; its connection string is injected as DATABASE_URL. Dump the Render database with pg_dump through its external connection URL and restore it into the new one; open a support ticket if you want help with the import.
• Point your domain with the CNAME, A and TXT records shown under Domains. HTTPS follows automatically once the TXT record matches.

When Render is the better choice

Choose Render if your users are in the Americas or South-East Asia, where its Oregon, Ohio, Virginia and Singapore regions are closer than Germany; if you need horizontal autoscaling; or if one service needs more than 2 GB of RAM, with instances up to 12 CPUs and 96 GB. Omeganodes runs in one location, Falkenstein in Germany, and is sized for small and mid-size apps, from 256 MB to 2 GB of RAM per plan and more with a RAM add-on.

Does Omeganodes spin down free apps like Render?

No. Omeganodes does not put idle apps to sleep on any plan, Free included. Render spins a free web service down after 15 minutes without traffic, and it takes about a minute to wake up.

Is Omeganodes cheaper than Render?

For one small app running all month, usually: Starter is €5 a month (€3 regional) with the database inside its disk, against $7 a month for Render's smallest paid instance plus a paid database once the free one expires. For bigger machines or autoscaling, which Omeganodes does not offer, Render is the better fit.

Can I pay without a credit card?
